Bob Kunz Update: Day 61 - Post 1

Well, Bob and Rose came in last night and Bob looked great!

The flight seemed to have no immediate effect on his condition.

He was bright eyed and feisty!

It was great to see and talk to him!

He should be coming into work in the next week to say hi to everyone.

He and Rose are staying with their son Pat and daughter in love Heidi for the next week or so.

I will try to keep you posted on the continuing progress.

Thanks again for your prayers, love and support!

Bob Kunz Update: Day 60 - Post 2

E-Mail Update from Melany:

Well this past weekend was pops and moms last weekend in Hawaii.

My family and the Moce family went camping. Pops and mom followed us out to the camp grounds on Friday...unfortunately it was pouring down rain.

We sat in our cars for about 45 minutes while the rain passed over. Pops and mom hung out with us all evening and then attempted to find their way back to my house in the dark. Mom did great!

Saturday they came back up to the camp grounds. To get to the camp ground from my house you have to drive around the island. This gave them the opportunity to see the island and get a little sun :o)

Sunday they spent packing up and getting ready to go home. Pops is VERY excited to be coming home.

Last night we had a BBQ at the pool at my condo. All the grandkids were very sad that papa and grandma are leaving.

Today is the journey home! They will get back into Seattle at about 9:00pm tonight.

This is where the next chapter begins.....

Bob Kunz Update: Day 60 - Post 1

Bob and Rose fly home tonight!

They're flight comes in at 9 something!

About half the family will be going to the airport to greet them.

Bob and Rose are planning to stay with Pat and Heidi for at least a week.

It really is incredible that after only 60 days Bob is stable enough and healthy enough to board a plane and fly home!

It will be a long road ahead, but thanks to your prayers, love and support, he is light years ahead of where the doctor's expected him to be!

Thank you,

Tim

All the continued prayers is appreciated and needed.

Bob Kunz Update: Day 53 - Post 1

E-mail update from Melany:

Good Morning ~

Well Pops has been progressing. Sunday night he helped Dante study for his history test. This was a very good learning time for both Dante and pops. Dante was studying who invented what during the 1920’s. It was good for pops to try and recall who invented the light bulb, who invented the radio etc. It is all a good learning experience for him. Dante had a good laugh at pops trying to pronounce some of the names.

Pops and mom are going to go on an outing today to the Rehab Hospital that he stayed at for 2 weeks. This is about 45 miles away from where I live. They have to go and drop off the wheel chair and pops wanted to go see all the friends he made while he was there.

Like I have said before….everyday is progress but this is going to be a long journey! We thank God daily for all that he has already done! He is a miracle in progress :o)

Bob Kunz Update: Day 49 - Post 1

E-Mail Update from Melany:
Well another week has gone by…..Pops continues to improve daily. He is looking great! He has lost about 40 lbs over this last 6 weeks. He is excited and said that he would really like to lose another 40 lbs. He is being careful what he eats and if he is offered some kind of dessert he says “I really don’t think I should have that”.

We went out for a little shopping last night at Sam’s Club. He decided to come along with us. Dante pushed him in his wheel chair up and down the isles….I am not sure who had more fun, Dante or grandpa :o) He did really well being out but after about 2 hours he figured it was time to be back home. He still gets very tired easy and can’t stay out too long. Of course most of the medications he is on for his blood pressure and bladder say…caution…may cause drowsiness. No wonder the guy is SO tired!

It is great to see his physical strength come back so quickly. Now we need to be praying for his long term and short term memory. The doctors have said that when someone has a brain injury of this extent that it can take quite some time to fully recover. We are hoping and praying for that miracle to happen sooner than later.

Thank you all again for all of your thoughts, prayers, and support that everyone has shown to pops and our entire family. Sometimes it is amazing to see how something tragic can bring everyone together….I have really seen this happen in this situation.

Happy Friday and I hope everyone that reads this has a very blessed weekend!

Bob Kunz Update: Day 46 - Post 1

E-mail update from Melany:

Well another day has gone by on this journey....

Pops had a full day of therapy at the house. He had the Speach Therapist and the Physical Therapist come to the house and work with him.

He got out of the house for some fresh air and walked up and down the sidewalk without a walker.

His grand-daughter, Elianna got him to play the Wii with her. I think they both had fun and pops took losing to her very well.

By 8:00pmm he was definately ready for bed.

Bob Kunz Update: Day 45 - Post 1

E-mail update from Melany:
Good Morning ~

My how time goes by quickly. We had a really good weekend. Pops is coming along great. He still needs plenty of rest…he gets tired out rather quickly.

Saturday we went down to the beach. He was so cute…he got his walker and walked out to the driveway while I was pulling the car up to pick him up. Mom looked down at his feet and asked “Bob, where are your shoes”? He looked at his feet and said “oh ya, I guess shoes would be good to have on”. He hadn’t even realized that he needed to be wearing shoes. Of course, we are not in Seattle where it is cold we are in Hawaii….so who wouldn’t want to go barefoot :o) We were able to take the wheelchair and have a nice walk along the pathway around the beach. It was a beautiful day and he enjoyed being outside. After about 2 hours he was ready to head back home and take a nap. The outing wore him out but at least he can get out for short periods of time.

Bob Kunz Update: Day 42 - Post 1

E-mail update from Melany:

We made it through our first full day at home. Pops did good.

Sherry, Siki and the kids came over in the late afternoon. Pops enjoyed being with the kids.

We had him go out for a little walk around my condo building. He took his walker with him to use. I had stayed at the house and when I looked out for them all he was rounding the corner carrying his walker on his shoulder.

Continue to pray for mom because there is a lot for her to learn and to do especially with all his medications.

Bob Kunz Update: Day 41 - Post 1

E-mail update from Melany:

Today pops got to come home...yah!

We got up to the hospital and Pops was already dressed and sitting in his wheel chair waiting to go home :o)

Now the real work begins....for us!

We (mainly mom) have to make sure he gets all his different medicines, monitor his blood pressure and track when he uses the bathroom to make sure his bladder is working.

Pops is happy to be at the house though.

Bob Kunz Update: Day 40 - Post 2

E-Mail Update from Melany:

Today pops was walking around the floor he is on without a walker or cane. He was doing a great job....had to go slow but was doing it on his own!

He had a session in the pool and was standing on one foot in the water.

I am excited that he is going to be able to do some physical therapy every day in the pool at my condo. It will be good for him. I am sure Dante is going to love helping papa in the swimming pool.

He had a very busy day and was worn out early today.

Bob Kunz Update: Day 40 - Post 1

Today is the day! Bob is supposed to be released from the Rehab center today!

Rose had a care giver class Monday to help her prepare for caring for Bob when he gets out.

Very exciting!

Thank you all for your prayers and support!

Bob Kunz Update: Day 38 - Post 1

E-Mail Update from Melany:

Good afternoon!

Well we had a good weekend.

Pops got to learn how to get in and out of vehicles using his walker.

Going through all of this with Pops it is amazing how many things we do every day that we just take for granted....like getting in and out of a car.

He did a great job but did need a stool because my vehicle was a bit high to get into.

Once he got into my car he turned facing the windshield and said "okay, let's get out of here and go home". He is very ready to be out of hospitals.

He will have to do daily out patient rehab when he does come to my house on Wed, but at least he will get to be in a more comfortable environment.

His bladder is starting to work and he is very thankful for that!

Thank you everyone for your continued prayers and support....we still have quite a journey ahead of us!

Bob Kunz Update: Day 35 - Post 1

E-Mail Update from Melany:

Pops is doing great!

The long days of therapy make him very tired so he is ready for bed at about 7:30pm.

He has been doing a great job trying to do everything the therapists tell him to do.
It is encouraging to see his positive attitude and his motivation to push himself to get better!

Bob Kunz Update: Day 34 - Post 1

E-mail update from Melany:

Good morning!

Pops is doing really great!

Yesterday they had him walking in the hallway using a cane. They had a therapist behind him and on the side of him but he did great. He is getting stronger every day.

They are talking about possibly releasing him from the rehab center on Wednesday next week. Then he would do out-patient therapy.

It is amazing watching him on the computer. He has remembered the keys, how to use the mouse and how to put a website in the address line.

We need to continue to pray for his kidneys and bladder because they still are not functioning right.

Bob Kunz Update: Day 32 - Post 1

E-Mail Update from Melany:

I feel like I am in a whirl wind, just going non stop.

I was sitting here working and it just dawned on me that I never did send you the update this morning. Sheeesh!

Pops is doing so amazing! He is very determined. The nurse was telling mom yesterday that we would not have to install the bars in the bathroom for support like they had told us earlier because of how strong he is and how determined he is to learn how to do everything.

They have taught him how to get in and out of the bathtub with just using the walls for support. They said that he is very strong which is absolutely amazing for the stroke that he had! Every day he is getting stronger.

They were working with him yesterday to be able to go up and down stairs. They have a set of stairs that has about 5 steps on it. They use this to teach the patients how to go up and down the stairs. He is suppose to go up one step at a time, stop, get his balance, and then go to the next step...but no, he wants to just do one foot on each step and go up and down them like you and I do. They had to tell him to slow down and take his time so that his knees wouldn't buckle and he wouldn't fall.

We need to continue to pray for his blood pressure and bladder. They have given him some medication for his bladder which in turn is causing some issues with his blood pressure. It is all such a fine line to try and keep everything under control.

Thanks everyone for all of the support and prayer!

We are definitely seeing a miracle in progress!
